Communication Skills — Essential to the Success of Health Care Assistants

The students in Drake Medox College’s English Preparatory Program recently discussed the above topic in a recent class.

According to students making ready for entry or already listed within the HCA Program, there’s unanimous agreement that smart communication skills area unit crucial to the work of a Health Care Assistant.

Three major areas discussed include:

  1. The ability to build rapport with clients and their team
  2. The importance of good listening skills which equates to “listening to understand”
  3. The ability to speak clearly with a respectful tone.

These 3 skills are a vicinity of developing smart communication skills. the scholars specific that effective communication is required altogether aspects of their work.

  • Working with clients and their families
  • Interacting with the team
  • Communicating with team leaders and other members of the inter-disciplinary team

Clients and Family

Being able to concentrate to clients’ wants is seen as vital to the work of an HCA. Students build the purpose here that communication with clients takes place each verbally and non-verbally, but each ways need skills and care to be effective. Speaking with clarity and in an exceedingly respectful manner each with clients and their relations are integral components of building rapport.

Teamwork

Students feel that effective communication is important for a range of wants once operating among a team. The sharing of ideas once figuring out plans of care and problem-solving is one example. This includes smart listening skills so as to listen to and consider others’ ideas. A team that works well along is one wherever the team members communicate well with one another, in an exceedingly approach that everybody feels and respected and revered member of the team. This once more results in positive rapport, positive relationships among co-workers, resulting in charge and service for clients.

Reporting

Both written and oral reports are a part of an HCA’s role. Students once more categorical that communication skills are required so as to be a reliable newsman. this can be directly associated with union clients well, because it is their wants that are being relayed to others.
