Timeout in Killarney National Park

Fun fact about Killarney National Park is that it’s the first national park in Ireland. I recently paid a visit to this stunning park of natural beauty, which is one of the top tourist destinations on the west coast of Ireland. It’s only a 5-minute drive from the town centre, so it’s very central.

Among many other things, the park is known for its three lakes. We visited two of the lakes, Muckross Lake and Lough Leane. We didn’t have time to visit the third lake which is called the Upper Lake. The first point of interest on our walk through the park was Muckross House and the nearby Muckross Lake.

Muckross House & Lake

Muckross House is a mansion built in 1843 and, architecturally speaking, it’s an impressive building. It wasn’t open when we visited due to the current restrictions. Muckross Lake is only 10 minutes walk from here, so we made our way to the lake.

The scenery as we approached the lake was mesmerizing with the mountains in the background and the low clouds gave a mystical feel. To add to this, both the mountains and clouds reflected on the lake. An unforgettable moment in the park. In the high season, there are…
