A Sweet Potato bake in oven is one of my favorite side dishes. It’s no-fuss, easy to bake, and packed with vitamins and nutrients.

The flesh of sweet potatoes is bright orange, the skin is a reddish-orange color, and the ends are more tapered. However, sweet potatoes can be white, orange, or purple. When cooked, sweet potatoes also become sweeter hence their name.
The conclusion:Even though it may have been referred to as a yam in the store, if the item you purchased looks like these pictures, it probably belongs to a sweet potato variety.

Ingredients:

  • 4 sweet potatoes, scrubbed clean
  • olive oil (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon koher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

How to make Sweet Potato bake in oven:

Give them a good scrub! While sweet potatoes have been given a rinse before arriving at the supermarket, they’re definitely not clean. To ensure you don’t end up with dirt and debris in your meal, make sure to give them a good scrub. I use this scrub brush under some running water to give my sweet potatoes a good wash. Then I blot them dry with a paper towel.
Poke them. Sweet potatoes build up heat and steam while cooking. To prevent the sweet potato from bursting it’s necessary to give each sweet potato a few pokes to ensure this air can escape and it cooks evenly. You can poke the sweet potato 4 to 5 times with a fork or sharp knife.
Bake them in the oven. Lay the sweet potatoes on a baking tray and cook them for approximately one hour at 400°F. Because sweet potatoes are not always uniform in shape and size, you may need to cook them a little bit less or a little bit longer, depending on size. You can tell if your sweet potato is cooked through if it pierces easily with a knife.

sweet potato recipes vegetarian Tips:

When baked, sweet potatoes may release some liquid. This can begin to caramelize on your baking sheet, making cleanup more challenging.Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent this.
Your sweet potato doesn’t need to be oiled on the outside or wrapped in aluminum foil.On its own, the sweet potato will bake perfectly on a baking sheet.
Even though sweet potatoes come in all shapes and sizes from nature, if you’re baking more than one, try to keep them about the same size.regardless of whether those are all large or small.
The baking time and temperature of sweet potatoes can be changed because they are very adaptable.Add the sweet potatoes to other dishes you’re cooking in the oven at 375°F and cook for an additional 15 minutes.Alternately, your sweet potatoes will be done 15 minutes earlier if you cook other foods in the oven at 425°F.But once more, everything depends on how big your sweet potato is.

Don’t try to save time and use a microwave for this. Your sweet potatoes won’t be nearly as sweet if you cook them this way; they need the time in the hot oven for their enzymes to convert starch into maltose, the sugar (about one third as sweet as table sugar) that makes sweet potatoes sweet.

The scrub brush is a great tool to have in the kitchen for washing a variety of vegetables.

sweet potato bake oven Storage:

Sweet potatoes are a great meal prep ingredient! Bake a few at the beginning of the week to enjoy throughout the week. They’re super easy to store if you have leftovers.

  • To store: Place the whole or halved sweet potato, or the scooped out flesh in a storage container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
  • To freeze: If you have a lot of leftovers, you can freeze them! Just scoop out the flesh into a storage container and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • To reheat: Pop the sweet potato in the microwave for a couple of minutes or in the oven at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes, or until warmed through.
