If you’re someone who’s developed a habit of drinking every day, it may seem like an impossible task to change that behavior.

I understand because I’ve been there, and it’s why I started a one-year, no alcohol challenge in April. Making a firm decision to give up alcohol for a year actually made the process of not drinking much easier. I didn’t have to think about it anymore.

It was simple, but it worked.

I’ve been reading some other strange (but simple) ways drinkers flipped their “off” switch, and here are seven of them…

1. Walking

Is there anything walking can’t do? It’s good for your mind, joints, muscles, and overall health. I’ve heard of people coming up with multi-million dollar ideas while out for walks.

But can it stop a person from drinking, too?

That’s what a commenter on Reddit said was key for him:

“I swear I tried everything. I told myself I’d only drink on weekends but failed. I promised my family I’d cut back. Failed. Even poured all the bottles down the sink one night, just to wake up two days later buying more. Same cycle again and
