What is Artemisia annua?

Artemisia annua is the scientific name for sweet wormwood. It is an annual plant from the Asteraceae family, like chamomile. Originally native to Asia, it is now cultivated worldwide.

The plant has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine and is valued for its numerous medicinal properties. It is used to treat fever, inflammation, headaches, bleeding, and malaria.

In addition to sweet wormwood, other types of wormwood, such as common wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris), are used as medicinal plants. Common wormwood is particularly popular as a remedy for digestive issues and women’s health problems.
