Burnout has become a serious problem in today’s unrestful world.

It is a condition where you feel completely exhausted. It drags your energy emotionally, mentally, and physically.

You no longer enjoy the activity you used to love. You don’t feel like doing your job. Even daily household work, like making tea, might seem troublesome to you. Thus it can poorly impact your overall life.

Burnout is often a result of continuously working for a longer interval of time, without a break. A few of its characteristics involve cynicism and detachment from work or personal life (or both).

What’s worse is, people don’t even recognize they’re undergoing a burnout in the first place — How would they even cure it?

Hence today I want to go in-depth and tell you the signs of burnout. Because the moment you recognize you have burned out, you win half the battle.

So let’s dive in.

9 Crucial Signs You’re Burned Out

“I wish I had someone to tell me what I was going through during my burnout phase. But I cannot change the past. However, I can definitely work on the present and the future. So here I am, informing you beautiful people about the signs of burnout.”

If you have developed any of the below characteristics recently, you might be going through a burnout.

1. Mental and Physical Exhaustion

You no longer possess any energy to perform tasks as easy as brushing your teeth. You also do not want to go to your job or do things you were once passionate about.

Or worse — you do not feel like leaving your bed in the morning even after a full night’s sleep.

2. Cynical Behavior

You’re turning cynical.

What does that mean? It refers to developing negative feelings for work or people around you.

3. Sense of Uselessness

You get thoughts like, “I’m not good at my work,” or “I don’t have any talent.” Although deep down you might even know this isn’t true, you still cannot control the sense of unworthiness.

4. Difficulty Maintaining Concentration

You face a constant battle within yourself, making it difficult to maintain focus on one thing.

Your mind keeps wandering, causing you to work on different tasks throughout the day but complete none of them in the end.

5. Hating What You Usually Loved

You have stopped loving what you used to.

To be more precise, you’ve lost interest in your hobbies, dreams, or career you were once passionate about.

6. Depression, Sickness, and Insomnia

You’re going into depression.

The reason being, mental exhaustion and feelings of unworthiness can drag you into depression.

Furthermore, you get easily sick and have frequent body pains. Plus you stay awake at night without any reason.

7. Easily Losing Temper

You’ve started losing temper even on small-silly things.

For instance, you get angry on a stranger for not agreeing with you on a political matter. Or you get angry on your child for not filling water bottles.

8. Addiction

You’re getting addicted.

But by addiction, I don’t only mean addiction to alcohol or smoking —

You can also develop addiction to:

  • Binge-eating
  • Binge-watching movies
  • Mindlessly scrolling social media all the time
  • Having tea/ coffee beyond a healthy range

That said, addiction can be of anything.

9. Not Appreciating Yourself and Others

You have stopped appreciating yourself.

You do not praise the work you do and often think you’re bad at your work.

I hope this story helps you recognize if you’re burned out.

Let me know if it helps you.
