I Tried Cutting Carbs, Fats, and Counting Calories — Here’s What Happened Instead
Let’s discuss the biggest myths that hold us back from a healthier, happier relationship with food.
I had been doing keto for six weeks when I drove headfirst into a telephone pole. No, I wasn’t drunk, nor was I texting. I was simply tired. I was tired in a bone-deep, brain-numb, can’t-remember-which-way-to-turn-on-my-car-back-home kind of way.
I had skipped breakfast that morning (again), and my lunch consisted of another slab of cheese wrapped in lettuce. Friends had warned me about the “keto flu.” Everyone said it would hopefully pass. It hadn’t.
I waited for a tow, and while I waited, I walked into a Dunkin’ Donuts that was next door and purchased a bagel sandwich.
Ten minutes later, my brain switched back on like flipping the lights back on. That bagel probably saved my life. Or at least my sanity.
It also destroyed one of the biggest lies I had ever held onto: that carbohydrates are bad for you.
