Just this week California Senator Dianne Feinstein was booed by constituents in her hometown of San Francisco. When asked her views of supporting a single-payer healthcare system in the United States, the senator stated that she was “not there” on the issue.

Many of those who attended the town hall weren’t too happy about her stance on the issue. Senator Feinstein who has served in the Senate since 1992 was heckled and booed and even called a “sell out” by attendees who were strongly for single-payer health insurance.

Not seen as a surprise many members of congress, especially United States Senators, still trout the idea to support and fix the Affordable Care Act. With Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign for president and his constant advocacy for Single-payer along with Michigan Congressman John Conyers’ bill in the House, which he has reintroduced since 2003, establishment and moderate Democrats still fail to listen to their constituent’s especially those who are in safe democratic seats.

This is something problematic mostly because whether Feinstein supports Single-payer or not, she still has a high chance of winning re-election in 2018. Same goes for many other safe Democrats who are up for re-election.

This issue is something that many progressive voters and now many members in the house have been supportive of. With many Senators who are claimed progressives staying quiet on this issue it is time for them to speak up about this issue.

As many progressives resist President Trump and push for change withing the Democratic Party, the only thing that must be done is that elected Democrats must take a stance on these progressive issues. The progressive based already upset and pissed about the election it is best that establishment democrats become vocal and work for the people they are elected to serve.
