Back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, caused by a multitude of factors. Everyday activities can put a strain on our backs, and once you have an injury it can be very difficult to recover fully. Oftentimes the recovery period exceeds what is allowable by employers, and without temporary disability insurance all too often people are going right back to work after an injury that has happened either in the workplace or outside in life. Back injuries can cause serious harm to overall health when not allowed to heal properly, so what can be done to prevent back injuries that lead to chronic pain?

Everyday activities like poor posture and lack of exercise can exacerbate back pain. There are also many common forms of injury that can lead to chronic back pain:

  • Force injuries happen when a person lifts or moves heavy objects
  • Repetition injuries happen with repeating movements, especially when there is twisting in the spine
  • Inactivity injuries come from sitting for long periods of time without proper back support

Paying attention to ergonomics, especially in the workplace, can help prevent many of these injuries from happening. But when an injury does occur, going to physical therapy can often help greatly. Learn more about back pain from the infographic below.
