Does that mean I should stop eating it altogether?
No.
Lean red meat provides good amount of proteins, Zinc, Vitamin B12 and Iron.
Limiting its intake will serve the purpose.
However, Fish and Omega 3 fatty acids in it, are instead as suggested by scientific studies, have potential to protect against cancer
How does red meat cause cancer?
Red meat during the normal course of digestion, cause natural formation of certain chemicals which damage the cells that line the inside of the bowel thereby potentially causing cancer.
Processed meat contained added nitrates and nitrites that when broken down during digestion form harmful chemicals that may cause cancer.
One more thing that needs to be understood here is when a person eats a lot of red meat, he may miss on the protective nutrients that he otherwise get from eating more of fruits and vegetables and whole grain high fibre cereals.
Besides being loaded with nitrates and nitrites, the red or processed meat are also high in saturated fats and salt.
Avoid frequent consumption and large quantities of Red meat.
Occassional indulgence is perfectly fine.
Include more and more fruits and vegetables.
High fibre rich whole grain cereals will make your diet even better.
