8 Simple Tricks to Stick to Your New Year’s Health Resolution

Every year we make New Year resolutions. Surely, it is enjoyable to make the resolutions, however it really difficult maintaining and achieving them. It’s high time that we should take the New Year resolution especially those concerned with our health, seriously. Here are 8 simple tricks and tips to stick to your resolution throughout the year until it is no more a resolution but a habit!

1. Plan and set your health goals: — Setting realistic goals is important. Think what your exact health goal is? Do you want to lose fat, gain muscles, lower cholesterol or improve nutritional status? Do not only concentrate on weight loss but also on fat loss. Do not aim for something too difficult to achieve. Set small targets first to achieve consistent results. Experts suggest that if breaking down our resolution into smaller and achievable goals that are precise, quantifiable and of specific time duration is a great way of achieving success.

2. Document your Health/Fitness Goals and your plans: — You are more probable of follow the plan and achieve your targets if you document them. Maintaining a food and exercise diary is a great way of noting down your plan and then tick once you have done the task for that day.

3. Consistency is the Key: — Understand that there is not going to be any dramatic change overnight. You have to be consistent towards your plan.

4. Eating right is as important as working out: — Eating a nutritious diet is very important for maintaining good health and staying fit along with exercising. They say our body is a reflection of 70% our diet and 30% the physical activity that we do.

5. Avoid trendy/fad diets: As the same suggest, these are only the trend for some time and not a lifetime commitment. A healthy diet and physical activity pattern is a lifestyle and not a temporary fad. They should be such that you will be able to follow it throughout your life.

6. Find a fitness buddy or coach: — Workout with a friend or ask your trainer or coach to keep a watch on you. Answerability is a great factor for sticking to your new ideas. Having an exercise buddy has 3 plus points, firstly it makes your wellness journey more enjoyable, secondly healthy competition keeps you motivated and helps you to accomplish your goals and thirdly there’s always someone to keep an eye on you so that you do not deviate from your plan as you are answerable to someone!

7. Self-Motivation: — Remind yourself of why you want to stick to your healthy routines. It will make it easier and more fun to follow your health plan. Stick , put reminders on your phone

8. Choose such physical activities that make you happy: — Always include your favorite activities regularly or at least in your weekly health routine. This way you will be looking forward to your workout and not avoiding it. For example if you like dancing do it at least once or twice in a week, if not daily. Similarly, if you like playing a particular sport or doing weight training just go for it.
The rest of the days in the week when you just cannot do that, do other exercises or simple activities such as brisk walking which is basically going to help you stay fit and indirectly help you do your favorite activities, since you are going to benefit from them as well.
