Academgorodok is part of the Sovetsky District of the city of Novosibirsk,
Russia, located 30 km south of the city center and about 10 km west of the Science town Koltsovo. It is the educational and scientific center of Siberia.
Located within Academgorodok is Novosibirsk State University, 35 research
institutes, a medical academy, apartment buildings and houses, and a variety of community amenities including stores, hotels, hospitals, restaurants and cafes, cinemas, clubs and libraries. The House of Scientists (Dom Uchyonykh), a social center of Academgorodok, hosts a library containing 100,000 volumes — Russian classics, modern literature and also many American, British, French, German, Polish books and magazines. The House of Scientists also includes a picture gallery, lecture halls and a concert hall.

The area is sometimes called “Silicon Forest”. A much larger technology center in the former Soviet Union is the Skolkovo Innovation Center, conveniently located on the outskirts of Moscow, a $4bn state project with annual revenues of $1bn.
Novosibirsk is among top 20 Best Student Cities in the world according to the
availability of education. Ranking specialists especially point out the unique atmosphere of the Academgorodok center where Novosibirsk State University is located.

Novosibirsk State University
The heart of Academgorodok is Novosibirsk State University. It takes the 2nd place in QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia. 80% of NSU faculty members are scientists from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. So education is carried out in close connection with the world-class scientific achievements.
Novosibirsk State University participates in the project 5–100 directed at
improving competitiveness of Russian higher education institutions on the global market. The Project 5–100 is aimed at developing Russian universities in the educational, scientific and innovative spheres. According to the aims of the project at least 5 Russian universities are to enter top100 positions of one of the global rankings: QS, THE or ARWU by 2020.
Novosibirsk State University entered the list of universities participating in the
project through an open competition.

Being a participant of this project mean that NSU receives additional funding and is in a better position for:
- participating in international mega-grants
- developing joint experimental scientific projects in the field of breakthrough
technologies
- conducting joint R&D projects with the Novosibirsk Technopark and the research
institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Graduates of the Novosibirsk State University work as professors at the University of California at Berkeley, Chicago, Harvard, Cornell, Stanford University. They are also work in leading positions in large international companies Microsoft, Parallels, Ernst & Young, Schlumberger, P & G, Gazprom, Baker Hughes, HP, Unilever, Shell, Intel.

Institutes
According to version of the Guinness Book of Records, the most intelligent street in the world is the prospectus of Academician Lavrentiev in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. Almost two dozen research institutes are located here for 2.4 kilometers. There are the institutes of thermophysics, inorganic and organic chemistry, catalysis, nuclear physics, hydrodynamics, cytology and genesis, chemical biology and fundamental medicine, semiconductor physics. Students and scientists work in these institutes and invent new developments.

Institute of Automation and Electrometry

Institute of Automation and Electrometry, Siberian Branch of the Russian
Academy of Sciences (IA&E, SB RAS) was founded in 1957 among the first institutions of the Siberian Branch.
The Institute is a research institution of physical and technical profile. General
scientific and methodological guiding of the Institute is provided by the
Departments of physics and nano- and information technologies of RAS together with the Presidium of SB RAS. Coordination for the Institute’s research activities is provided by the Joint Scientific Council of SB RAS on physical sciences, and partly by the Joint Scientific Council of RAS on nano- and information technologies.
Main research directions of the Institute are:
1. Actual problems of optics and laser physics, including physical processes in
gaseous and condensed media induced by a radiation, nonlinear phenomena
at the interaction of the radiation with structured materials;
2. Fundamental as well as applied research and development in the field of
laser and optical technologies;
3. Architecture, system solutions, mathematical models and software for data
processing and computing systems of recognition, analysis and
representation of information and control systems for complex dynamic
processes.
The Institute cooperates with many foreign universities, institutes and research institutions of the USA, Germany, France, Sweden, China, Korea and other countries.
Basic types of cooperation: joint research, collaborative activities within various grants and contracts, participation in international symposia, conferences, workshops, and exhibitions, mutual visits, and exchange by delegations of scientists.
Basic fields of joint research: nonlinear physics, plasma physics, nonlinear optics, laser physics, fiber lasers, ultrashort optical pulses in fiber waveguides, light-induced kinetic effects in molecular systems, spectroscopy of atomic-molecular and cluster media, glass formation by the method of low-frequency and Raman scattering, diffraction optics, new information technologies, advanced methods of statistical processing of signals and data, methods and algorithms of information processing as applied to processing of aerospace images.

IAE SB RAS serves as a base for three specialized departments of the Novosibirsk
State University (NSU):
1. Automation of Physical and Technical Research
2. Quantum Optics
3. Informational-measuring Systems.
Based on these departments and Institute’s laboratories the Scientific Educational
Centers are established to facilitate training of highly qualified young
professionals.
The Institute is also known in the mass media. The results of scientific discoveries of scientists are often shown on TV and You Tube, they are written about in newspapers and spoken on the radio.
In 2007, the Institute of Automation and Electrometry of SB RAS celebrated its 50th anniversary. The Institute is a publisher of the periodical (6 times per year) journal “Avtometriya”, which is republished in the U.S. under the name “Optoelectronics, Instrumentation and Data Processing”
