Why is diversity important for an organization? At HealthTap our goal is to change the world for the better, and to do that we need a diverse team. To Nguyen Phan, who’s been at HealthTap since 2012, the connection is clear: “Diversity is always important in the workplace, but even more so when you are creating a product that is going to be used on a global scale.” And that doesn’t just mean bringing together people from different countries, but also those with a diversity of experiences, perspectives, and skills.

“Health care is not going to change with a group of doctors who claim to understand how technology and software work at scale. Nor is it going to change with a group of Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs who claim to understand the science and art of medicine and health care. It’s going to be a cross-disciplinary effort,” Sean Mehra, HealthTap’s Head of Product, said. “And HealthTap is fortunate to have some of the world’s best experts who are MDs, MBAs, marketers, data scientists, UX designers, JDs, engineers, and more working together to solve the same problem — helping billions live happier, healthier, and longer lives.”

It’s something we take seriously in hiring, and in our doctor network that now has more than 55,000 doctors representing all 50 States. For Drea Burbank, a physician who works on bioinformatics at HealthTap, it’s simple: “It’s magic. A diverse group means you listen more, and learn more, and intermingle paradigms. There’s no better chemistry for creating something new.” That chemistry is what drives us to build HealthTap and provide solutions for all people, and will continue to inform everything we do.
