Go green this St. Patricks Day
St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday! While you desperately raid your closet for any pieces of green clothing, you might also be planning an Irish celebration. Before planning your Irish goodbye, check out this health tip from one of our doctors and learn why you should go green!
When we say “go green”, we’re really talking about eating your veggies. Despite the normal St. Patty’s day celebration of Irish potatoes and beer, we dare you to take a risk and hop on the green train. Hopefully, it will lead you to a pot of gold and lots of luck!
According to Dr. Bernard Seif, leafy greens are healthiest raw, “Leafy greens are best because cooking denatures the enzymes in the plants to some degree.”
Should you choose to forego the traditional salad, you can try a superfood smoothie to get those raw leafy greens into your diet. To get you started, check out this easy smoothie recipe and kickoff your healthy St. Patrick’s Day celebration:
1 1/2 cups apple juice
2 cups stemmed and chopped spinach or kale
1 apple — unpeeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 avocado, chopped
- Combine the apple juice, spinach, apple, and avocado in a blender and puree until smooth, about 1 minute, adding water to reach the desired consistency.
