Brownies for a healthy afternoon snack? Nope, it’s definitely not too good to be true.

We’ve put a delicious and healthy spin on a classic treat, turning it into something that’s nutritious enough to eat as a snack or even as a grab-and-go breakfast, but still decadent enough to eat for dessert. Instead of spending money on granola bars, try whipping up these brownie bliss balls that will give you the perfect energy boost for your afternoon.

These snacks are perfect to take to work and to munch on at anytime, and they are super easy and convenient to make. They contain only 5 ingredients, can be prepared in less than 15 minutes, and can be stored for a week at a time in the fridge.

You’ll get staying power from whole grain oats, filling fiber from the dates, a powerful boost of healthy fat and protein from the almonds, and antioxidants and polyphenols from the cacao, all while you’re eating something that tastes indulgent and delicious.

What you’ll need:

Makes approximately 12 balls

1 cup medjool dates (soaked if too dry)

1 cup almonds

1 cup rolled oats (gluten free if needed)

¼ cup cacao powder

2 tsp vanilla extract

1–2 tbsp water: as needed

Suggested coatings:

Coconut flakes

Cacao powder

Cacao nibs

Cinnamon

Crushed almonds

In a food processor, add the oats, almonds, and cacao powder, and process it until they are ground into a coarse flour. Then, add the dates and process until a thick dough is formed. If the mixture is too crumbly, add a tablespoon of water at a time until the dough reaches the consistency to form a solid ball.

Using a tablespoon, scoop the dough roll it into approximately one inch balls. Then, cover the balls in whatever coatings you desire. Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 7 days. Enjoy!
