Your Guidebook for Keeping New Year’s Resolutions

New year… they said.

New you… they said.

They made it sound so easy, but you’ve fallen off the wagon a bit because, honestly, New Year’s resolutions are hard!

If you’re feeling this way, it means you’re doing it right. New Year’s resolutions are supposed to challenge you and help you grow each year. The reality is that keeping your resolutions is much more complicated than just making a resolution… to keep your resolutions. Hey, the truth hurts!

While you may not have kept all or any last year, make this the year to keep your New Year’s resolutions by following The Resolution Guidebook.

The Guidebook:

Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today:

Procrastination often gets the best of you, until you realize that you have the power to overcome it. No one is holding you back except for yourself, so if one of your resolutions is to workout more or eat healthier, you should start right now! It’s difficult to get into the groove of things at first, but eventually, you’ll develop new habits for the better.

Make squad goals an actual thing:

It’s always more fun to embark on a new journey or take on a new challenge with friends. Together, your squad can set some goals for each other so that you have something to work towards. Not only will your friends support you and keep you company, but they will encourage you to keep striving towards your goals and push you to your limits. There’s no reason you and your squad can’t give Taylor Swift a run for her money.

Keep track of your progress:

If you’re going to put time and effort into something, you should definitely be sure to track your progress. Get creative and gamify the process so your resolutions don’t seem like a burden. You can set milestones for yourself or just write down your accomplishments. At the end of the year, you’ll want to be able to look back and point to what you’ve done in 2017. Make sure you do enough during the year that you’ll be proud of yourself when you reflect on what you’ve done!

Reward yourself:

Don’t allow any cheat days, but definitely reward yourself for a job well-done. Maybe you’ll splurge on a new gadget you’ve had your eye on, or perhaps you’ll sleep in. If you want to grab a cookie after completing a juice cleanse, have at it! Whatever your resolutions are, you should reward yourself often. There’s no need to wait until the end of the year. As long as you’re working towards your goals or accomplishing more than you did the day (or year) before, you deserve to be rewarded.
