You’re fantastic.

You can do anything you set your mind to.

That’s why you shouldn’t make New Year’s resolutions for 2017.

It’s a great idea to take the time to re-prioritize your life and set some goals, but in order to achieve those goals, you have to win the mental game. Every year, you and your friends come out of the gate strong, only to fizz out by February. Discouraged, you think to yourself, “Another year, another failed New Year’s resolution.”

Pro tip: Feeling discouraged isn’t a requirement for 2017 and can be completely eliminated.

That’s right, you can totally prevent this from happening by NOT making New Year’s resolutions and removing the fake timelines you implement on yourself. The truth is, you can set a goal anytime of the year, and you can achieve it at anytime of the year. It’s much easier to achieve these goals if you don’t feel discouraged or like you’ve failed.

Once you’ve fallen off track, it’s hard to get back on track. However, if you don’t start on any track on January 1st, you have no track to fall off of!

“Goal setting should be with realistic goals and goals that can be achieved through discipline and with a plan.

There are no medical doctors that force or recommend such cultural traditions as “new year’s resolutions’. That is a tradition. It is not a medical problem.” — Dr. Robert Killian

So go ahead and think about areas of self-improvement and focus on those areas when you’re ready. You’re well on your way to having the best year ever!
