Health Tech Hub Vol. 18 — Your Weekly Reads in Medicine and Health Tech

  1. Amazon-Berkshire-JPM Chase’s (ABC) Health Care Playbook — A comprehensive map of ‘The Goal,’ ‘The Challenge,’ and ‘The Play’ as new ABC CEO, Atul Gawande, looks to lead the firm to new and sustainable healthcare models.

This article summarizes ABC’s roadmap and challenges ahead of them as the three titans aim to revolutionize healthcare. Some of the main takeaways are that ABC will operate as a not-for-profit and they will focus on reducing misused resources to drive down health care costs. However, they acknowledge that this will be an exceedingly difficult challenge.

2. Being 30 then and now: graphs and bullet points showing what has changed over the last forty years for 30-year-olds. (data from 1977 to 2016)

3. Poor die younger, smaller chance of developing into political life — Many health-related deaths are associated with poverty, and poverty is related to earlier death. With the “haves” and “have-nots” usually taking different political stances, this affects their ability to influence politics.

4. The Lemonaid App! — Lemonaid offers a new $25 model for doctor consultations. If you want to skip the hospital, you can consult a physician over webcam and have labs ordered (through Quest Diagnostics and others). As society gets more comfortable with telemobile communications, this could be a model that gains traction in the future.

Bonus: Sometimes when I’m bored, I flip through textbooks to get a new view on the world. Found this rad link with a bunch of “best” textbooks for many subjects.
