Join Us On The Look Great Feel Great Challenge!

At Aspire, our mission is to change people’s lives for the better. With New Year’s Day coming up soon, we starting thinking about New Year’s resolutions and people’s desire to make a fairly large change in their lives. Are there certain kinds of New Year’s resolutions which are more effective than others? Which particular factors result in success and which factors result in failure?

Since Aspire is an action-oriented organization, we decided to conduct a scientific study around these sort of changes in how somebody lives their life. We’re calling it the Aspire Look Great Feel Great Challenge and Study. It’s a challenge because we’re all trying to be our best selves. It’s a study because we are documenting the outcomes for science using the scientific method, so that we can contribute to the scientific literature around personal change. As we discussed recently, there are certain areas, like intermittent fasting, where the scientific studies suggest positive outcomes but, until now, the existing studies have been quite limited.

We believe the best way to help people in a variety of areas is to measure outcomes so we can have tangible evidence of what works and what doesn’t work. Please help us document how these ideas are changing your life. Aspire is about producing tangible results, not simply interesting ideas.

Who Should Participate?

Anyone who wants to make their life better. Participants will be given a variety of options regarding what to change during the testing period. Some people will choose to change nothing. They will be the control group. Some people will choose to only change one thing, perhaps testing out intermittent fasting for themselves, or eating better food, or whatever aspect of the study resonates with them. Some people will want to make fairly radical changes across a variety of areas of their lives. We want all of you as participants!

This study is particularly interesting to those who want to lose weight. We are testing a variety of techniques to determine the best and most pleasant ways to get in shape and move from a place of obesity to a place of optimal health.

How Long is the Study?

The study is 30 to 60 days in length. Participants agree to alter certain aspects of their lives for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days, we’re going to ask to see if you want to continue the changes for another 30 days. That’s it.

To sign up, you are going to click the button at the end of this article and fill out the signup form. We’ll measure certain baseline metrics, such as your current sleep quality and happiness levels. You’ll complete similar surveys on day 30 and day 60. That’s it! You will have made your life a bit better and you will have contributed to science!

When Does the Study Start?

The first cohort of the study will start on January 1, 2018. We hope to assemble a group of people who can encourage each other, in real-time, in our Facebook group. We think this will increase the probability that each participant can succeed.

If you’re reading this article after March 2018, you can still participate! We’ve designed the study so that it can also be asynchronous. Go ahead and sign up now, start the study, and your results will be added to the earlier ones. Over time, we hope to get enough participants to have statistically significant results that can contribute to the scientific discussion around these key points.

What is Being Studied?

We’re studying weight loss, sleep quality, happiness levels, when you eat, what you eat, addictive behaviors, and a variety of other factors. If you are thinking about making a personal change in your life, we are probably studying something which will be directly interesting to you. For those areas which don’t resonate as much right now, go ahead and be part of the control group for that factor by changing nothing.
