The narrow and dirty alley was gathering venue for foreign domestic helpers on public holiday, due to insufficient open space in Sham Shui Po.
Typical locksmith cart in alley
It was common scene in Sham Shui Po that salesmen erecting roll-up banner outside MTR station. Meanwhile, chairs were placed alongside the road for pedestrian taking rest next to trolleys loading with recycled material.
Stockpiling of on-street shop further blocked the narrow street, and caused potential danger to pedestrian.
Over-illumination of lighting Pai Dong (fixed-pitch hawker) posed light pollution to nearby residents.
Bags of garbage wereplaced near the bin. FEHD contractor was clearing garbage to restore the street space. Is it the problem of improper littering behavior? Or insufficient garbage bins/ FEHD contractors on duty?
Informal street hawkers (right) and on-street shop (left) occupied two sides of the road, mixed with illegal parking.
Improper road crossing behavior is common at the junction outside West Kowloon Shopping Centre. Road crossing design and pedestrian/driver attitude are also important to road safety.
Resting seat at bus station is essential particularly for Sham Shui Po with high proportion of aging population.
Gathering can be occured everywhere on street with a table and chairs. The street space is fully utilized at night for social event in Sham Shui Po.
More and more hawkers conquered the street after closing of Pai Dong, selling low-priced antiques and used stuff.
People were searching “treasure” with torch in the “black” market
A man with cage of rabbits attracted lots of people obstructing the street. He claimed that they are not for sale to get away from prosecution. These type of grey-area activities could only exist at night.
Garbage produced by commercial and logistic activities on street would only be cleared in the next dawn.
