Are You Prepared for Metaverse Dating?
Avatar-based virtual experiences will soon be the norm in dating. How dystopian will romance get?
Jack has a date.
It’s not your typical coffee date. Jack is finally going to meet Jill on a metaverse date.
Jack won’t leave his apartment for this date. He doesn’t even have to shower or wear pants.
But he does have to wear the necessary VR (virtual reality) gear. Jack straps on his headset equipped with sensors that will track his eye movement and facial expressions. He then pushes each of his nervous fingers into his haptic glove. This glove will allow him to grab Jill’s hand and feel the warmth of her skin. The back of the glove even has tiny cameras to track his movement through space.
Jack suggested they go back to the Cretaceous Period, where the software makers have constructed a dinosaur park, but Jill wanted to go to Ariana Grande’s virtual concert. T-rex will have to wait.
Jack sits at the bar waiting for Jill to arrive. He buys her a drink with his “Tinder Coins” and debates whether he should purchase a virtual rose too. He decides that it is too soon for a first date.
