A few months ago, three ex-boyfriends contacted me on the same day. I did not respond to two of them. And the one I did, I wish I had not.

A few days later, my head kept chasing its tail. What were the odds of three exes contacting me in one day? To answer that question, I did what any logical person would do when faced with a statistical improbability. I Googled.

Into my magical eight ball, I typed, “Is there a national contact your ex day?”

And boom…the oracle spoke. “National Contact Your Ex Day” is October 30th. You now have permission to drunk dial your ex and profess your undying love on that day. Or not.

Unfortunately, that was not the day of my ex-triumvirate. I still needed answers.

When I told this story to a friend, she posed a thorny question—why are all your exes always creeping back into your DMs? We took a very legal edible together and had some theories.

You have weak boundaries.

An ex often comes back simply because they know they can. Your ex is most likely on the rinse-and-repeat cycle of your relationship. Basically, you took them back once (ok, several times before), so…
