We hardly talk about the emotional trauma women endure when they are cheated on. Society assumes it’s normal that women should bear the pain because, guess what? “All men cheat.”

When Henry came crying about his wife, Cat’s betrayal, I was indifferent. I’d known Henry and Cat long enough to believe Henry had it coming. But Cat didn’t look like the kind of woman who would do such a thing. She was traditional, moral, kind, and grounded.

Henry was a good provider, no doubt. He poured every ounce of energy into building their life. Long hours, endless business trips, and more committed to his work than to Cat. He was hardly ever home. His love was bought with credit cards and expensive trips. His presence, however, was a rare luxury.

Cat never once complained. She stood by him, defended him when neighbors whispered, and smiled as if loneliness wasn’t marked on her face. She honored her vows when most women would have packed their bags years ago.
