7 years ago, I asked a guy if we could get back together. We dated long enough but broke up for some reason. Yet I still felt so much love for him that I’d like to give it another try.

He gave me the simple “no”. He also told me he wasn’t interested in being in a relationship. He just wanted to be alone and “work on his goals”.

A few months in, one of our mutual friends told me he got married in the city. When I heard the news, I laughed at myself feeling so stupid because here I was thinking, “Maybe I can wait for another year until he’s ready”.

Turned out he was ready all along — just not with me.

It haunted me even after years later. I didn’t know this was called “the taxi cab theory” until I stumbled into it lately. But then, there’s this uneasy feeling when knowing fully about this concept.

Perhaps, because this “taxi cab dating theory” isn’t something I believe in. There are lots of disadvantages, especially for women.
