Love is only a superpower if you learn how to turn it off and on. Like Hulk’s anger, unmanageable love isn’t a superpower. It’s a menace. If you can’t master it, love just goes around wrecking things and hurting people.

Side-piece zen is about mastering boundless love. Everybody wants to be loved beyond measure, right up until it’s time to go home. If that’s what you want, I’m the girl who can do that for you. I can love you like nobody has ever loved you, and when you have to go, I can let you go freely — with a kiss and a smile.

There’s an old zen story about impermanence.

A student asked a zen master, “In this world where everything changes, where loss and grief are inherent in our existence, how can there be any happiness?
