What I Discovered When I Slept With A Friend
I uncovered a new flavor of intimacy.
From the first time I slept with someone to the dating years that followed my divorce, I’ve experienced a few different flavors of sex. That first time was with the man I eventually married. I knew nothing different and I had nothing to compare it against. All I knew was that I couldn’t quite figure out why there was so much fuss over sex.
I knew my heart raced when I watched a romantic scene on a movie screen but that didn’t happen so much in person. The flavor of sex between us resembled jarred parsley — something that doesn’t do much to enhance a dish but I kept reaching for it because it was what I had and all I knew. I didn’t yet know the bright flavor of fresh parsley or that any other flavor even existed.
Our sex life wasn’t the reason the marriage ended but having it resemble jarred parsley did indicate a critical piece was missing from our relationship puzzle. I didn’t discover what that was until a few years later.
Since then I’ve experienced other flavors of sex. The first was the habanero spicy sex with my affair partner. I never knew it could be that way until I met him.
Next came the awkward sex I had with someone I dated for a few months. The two of us never quite connected well physically…
