Why Homemakers Should Demand Control of 100% of the Family Finances

The spouse that isn’t allowed to work shouldn’t have to beg for an allowance.

Both my wife and I have always held jobs. To be perfectly honest, I’d be quite happy to be a “homemaker,” but due to wage stagnation, my family has found it impossible to survive on a single salary.

Today, many public figures call for a return to a 50s-era social structure. However, the only thing that’s ever discussed is a superficial and nostalgic arrangement where the men go off to work and the women spend all day vacuuming in high heels, making dinner, and looking immaculate.

They can’t truly expect us to reform our society based on what’s depicted in Leave it to Beaver.

Since there’s no sign that those who promote a return to a single-earner family structure are ever going to relent, we might as well ask them some practical questions. If they believe that one member of the family unit, “belongs in the kitchen,” then I’m curious about the budget that should be allocated to fulfill those duties.

After all, groceries aren’t free.

Perhaps if we asked more questions about how a “traditional” household would face the complications of modern society, there would be more…
