George Felder is “the library man.” For the last 14 years, George has been serving Anchorage patrons at the Z.J. Loussac Library as an Associate Librarian, providing reference services, compiling records, sorting and shelving books, and issuing and receiving materials like pictures, cards, slides, and microfilm. He helps visitors find exactly what they’re looking for, even employment at the Library’s Job Lab. “The most important thing I do in my work is provide information and services that lead to patrons resolving important matters related to their life. That request may be any possible field of knowledge or human experience, and can be as simple as how to print a document or where to find help overcoming a catastrophic event of a personal nature,” Felder said.

Felder started with the Municipality in 2000 as a Certified Employment Coordinator, helping people get trained or retrained for employment with educational or vocational technical resources. He also served a term as Union President of the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) AFSCME Local 16. “I have learned that municipal employees create a good and enduring lifestyle for everyone across the board,” said Felder.

At the Library, Felder’s commitment to service makes it a welcoming and friendly place. “I want everyone to know this is their library and to show them respect,” he said. “I like that I get to serve people of every strata of life.”

In addition to his service as an MOA employee, Felder is an ordained minister and a dedicated volunteer at the Salvation Army of Anchorage. He enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife of almost 50 years.
