I’ve heard it said that Someday Syndrome is a universal human experience. After all, waiting until someday means we’re delaying what we really want in life for some unknown time in the far-off future.

I was doing exactly this when my friend shook me awake with her observation about my move to Spain.

I used to say, “someday, when my mom passes away, I’ll move abroad”. I was 63 years old, and my mom lived far away from me and was in good health. She could live another 10 years, and it didn’t take a mathematician to figure out I would be too old to move halfway across the world on my own.

I was ultimately procrastinating something rewarding based in the assumption that someday, all the circumstances would be right. But where was the evidence of that?

It can certainly hold us back, but Someday Syndrome is not necessarily a bad thing. We need to be thinking about the future in order to set big, courageous goals. Someday Syndrome is something to be aware of — especially if you hope that the right moment will arrive.

There are many reasons why we deal with Someday Syndrome and there are ways to discover and manage…
