Mending
Poetry — moving forward
One does not build on sandy soil,
Because it is unsteady and unsafe,
We need good firm soil to build on,
So it is the same to build,
A solid foundation inside ourselves.
Determination and courage are strong,
Like good firm soil,
Keeping us focused,
Motivated and challenged.
It’s never easy to reclaim ourselves,
After trials and tribulations,
And crises that turn us inside out,
We must allow ourselves to heal,
Any anger, sadness, and tiredness,
Wounds take time to mend,
Weariness keeps us wrapped in still waters,
Such as not getting out of bed, or off the couch.
We must have others to help us,
To sit with our sadness for a while,
Then helping to make us press forward,
Everyone needs a friend,
Or someone to confide in.
We must rest and breathe,
Deeply in the silent moments,
And hours…
One stepping stone to another.
