If we’ve learned anything in the last few years, it’s that taking care of ourselves, physically and emotionally is not possible without downtime. Most of us did not give this topic much thought until we were “prescribed” downtime during Covid.

Most of us think that if we had more hours in the day, we would be happier with our lives. We feel like we have too much to do and not enough time to do it. Some people call this “time poverty”. It doesn’t matter what your family, employment, or relationship status, modern life can be overwhelming.

Some experts say that instead of focusing on the time we don’t have, we should aim to spend the time we do have more strategically. We can organize our days to include less of what hampers our happiness and more of what matters. With a few simple schedule adjustments, we might be able to find a life with sufficient leisure time.

You can take stock of the free time you currently have. To calculate how much time you currently have, you have to do a little math. Start with any breaks of free time you have on a given day. Maybe you woke up early to squeeze in a 30-minute workout. While at work, maybe you took a 15-minute coffee break with a work buddy.
