You weren’t notified that parenting would be so fucking hard. That it would take every bit of strength, stamina, and sense of humor you could muster. You weren’t notified that it would pull your heart in every direction and sometimes break it in two. You weren’t notified that as hard as little ones can be, big ones are even harder. Big kids, big problems.

You weren’t notified that no matter what, they become your top priority. Over work, exercise, food, your husband, time with friends and sleep. You weren’t notified that as a parent you would care so deeply, so profoundly about their welfare, health, career, happiness, joy and their future, that you would drop anything, anytime they need you. No matter what.
