New Prototype Revealed — ‘Basketball Tactics’
Today we streamed some development on Twitch of a new prototype about Basketball Tactics (final name TBD). It’s mashup of Basketball and tactical strategy gameplay — a sort of XCOM Meets NBA Jam. Check out the full stream link above.
Similar to V.A.T.S in Fallout 3 and 4, you’ll be able to pause the game to make a pass, shoot the ball, or make a defensive choice.
When you freeze the game, each choice you can make will have a number attached to it that indicates the percentage of chance you have for successfully completing that action.
You can also make choices about which plays you want your team to run, with plans of having an in game editor allowing players to come up with their own plays. It also comes with some hot fire beats made by Scott :) (he’s thinking of streaming some music creation in FL Studio as well).
We’re excited about where the game is going, but please remember it’s very very early and we have a lot of work to do before it’s fully fleshed out. The hope is that the game will be a strategic tactical game, that basketball and non-basketball fans alike can enjoy. Our goal is to be totally open throughout development, and find a community of players that we can collaborate with to innovate in the sports video game space.
Here’s what Scott tackled in this development stream;
- Demo of the current prototype
- Jump Ball Bug
- Defensive Controls (see the results near the end of the stream)
If you watch the stream, please let us know what you think about the game so far. We’d love to hear your feedback!
