Roadblocks are just un-glorified starting points.

While writing Miller’s Crossing, the Coen Brothers experienced a profound case of writer’s block.

They didn’t want to let the frustration hold them up, so they took a break for three weeks to write a second project and clear their heads.

The second project was the tale of an wordsmith that moved to Hollywood to write for “the pictures.” The main character experienced the same dilemma in which the Coens were stuck — writer’s block.

After three weeks of work, they’d written a complete second script. It became Barton Fink, their next film.

Maybe when we experience roadblocks we shouldn’t let them paralyze us, but motivate us elsewhere.
