Madeline wished Leo would just stop speaking. She couldn’t understand how someone could be so lacking in self-awareness they didn’t realise when they were offending everyone around them.
What was worse was that Hope didn’t seem to be aware of it either.
What the hell did he have over her?
“I doubt Madeline or Hope want to hear about our childhood,” Jarrett interrupted.
“Oh, but I do!” Hope’s eyes were shining. Madeline couldn’t believe it. Hope genuinely wanted to hear about horrid things they’d done as children?
Leo grinned. “There was this one time, we had this real bitch of a teacher, used to pick on us because of who our parents are — ”
“Really, Leo?” Jarrett grimaced, and Madeline felt a wash of affection for him. At least he had the decency to be embarrassed.
