Sunday was everything Madeline needed to get over the stresses of the previous week.
She and her mum had a picnic brunch in the park, followed by a trip to the movies. Madeline quite deliberately avoided the romance, dragging her mum into the comedy instead.
Afterwards she confided in her mum, whose gave her some advice. Trust her instincts, go with the flow, and remember how easy it was for people to get caught up their own world, which applied just as much to Madeline and her study as it did to Hope and her boyfriend. It made her feel better about everything, and by the time Madeline went to bed that evening she felt far less anxious about facing Hope again the next day.
She wasn’t prepared for the six am phone call on Monday morning.
“Maddy? Did I wake you? Shit. Sorry.” Hope’s voice croaked down the line.
