Chapter 3 of my serial novella — Rocky Road to Love. If you’ve just stumbled on this page, you might like to start with Chapter 1, (or Chapter 2 is here, if you missed it). If you’ve read some of my earlier work, you’ll find this isn’t as steamy as my usual stories… not yet, anyway.

The ice-cream van was everything Hope said it would be.

It was easily twelve metres long, and a good four metres wide. Inside Madeline could see why. The entirety of one side was made up of deep rectangles of ice-cream, at least twenty tubs lining the wall. Opposite was a bench with a double sink, several cabinets, and a metal contraption on the wall.

“How exciting we get to work together!” Hope’s voice rose in pitch whenever she was excited, and the way it pierced Madeline’s eardrums told her Hope was super excited.

“Okay. So. Obviously first things first is to take your customer’s order. We’re supposed to greet them with ‘Welcome to ‘Rocky Road Ice-creams’: every flavour under the sun. What can I get for you today?’, but sometimes it’s super busy so you can just drop the first bit if you need to. Cones are here,” Hope pointed to the…
