HDL Changes for 2016 Season and Beyond

Established amongst a bunch of friends and acquaintances in 2014, the Heinbail Dynasty League has established itself as the premier dynasty fantasy football league in the country [citation needed].

The dedication and passion that each owner brings to the table are what make this league great. Whether it be the weekly competition and battle for the annual league championship, the always-active trading blocks and regular fleecings, the external use of Slack and blog posts full of trash talk and banter, or any of the many other attributes that make it what it is, there can be no argument that the league has already achieved greatness.

As the HDL heads into its third full season and continues to mature and evolve, there will be some changes that all owners will need to be made aware of at the 2016 Rookie/Free Agent Draft.

A League Worthy of a Logo

A new identity for the HDL has been designed by an outside firm. The new logo, seen below, contains elements that have been inspired by the league itself:

A Dozen Stripes
There are twelve stripes at the bottom of the shield, each representing one of the teams that comprise the league. Additionally, the stripes can be seen as a football field broken into the standard 10-yard increments and including the two end zones.

Forward Thinking
The top half of the shield contains a bold “HDL” which now becomes the official acronym of the league. The letters are italicized to indicate speed and forward motion representative of the future-focused mindset most owners have.

Trades, Lots of Trades
Bisecting the top and bottom of the shield are opposing arrows which have been derived from the icon used to indicate a trade in the league. The HDL logo wouldn’t be complete without a nod to one of the most cherished aspects of an active league.

Crowning Achievement
Resting on top of the logo is a crown for the dynasty each of the twelve teams has an opportunity to create. The crown has three prongs — one for each division, and at the center is a jewel alluding the championship that each owner strives for every season.

Showing Some Team Spirit

For the owners that use Slack, an optional (but encouraged) way to support the league would be to update your Slack theme to match the colors of the the new logo. Changing your theme is simple:

  1. Open Slack on a computer
  2. In the top left, click the Heinbail Dynasty League team menu
  3. Choose Preferences
  4. Select the Sidebar Theme tab
  5. Scroll to the bottom and paste this text into the box:

A Championship In Need of a Name

Beginning in the 2016 season, and in all seasons moving forward, the HDL championship will officially be renamed as The Heinbowl. This has already been discussed amongst owners that actively participate in the external conversations, but to make it official it has now been placed in writing.

All future and former champions can now be referred to as Heinbowl champions. Congratulations to Brett Poulton/Adam Milsted and Cleve Bryan, the 2014 and 2015 HDL Heinbowl champions!

The Sign of a Champion

A Heinbowl winner demands respect, of this every owner can agree. The way a champion can command respect in a room of his peers has been hotly debated from the inception of the HDL.

Should a champion be awarded with a custom wrestling belt? Some owners like that idea more than others. Perhaps it would be better to for each owner to be awarded a blazer with a patch, a la the NFL Hall of Fame or The Masters? The logistics of this alone have not yet been figured out and, despite it being a part of the league rules, a unanimous desire it is not.

So where does this leave us? What should every Heinbowl champion receive? We have an answer. It has been shipped here, all the way from the Ukraine…
