Week 1 is officially wrapped up, one of lowest scoring fantasy weeks for the league since 2015. Opposite of Week 1 2016 which had big scores by many players who would be fantasy-irrelevant for the rest of the season, this week saw big names struggle to perform, leading to lots of overreaction and expectations/hopes of positive regression.

Chink in the armor

Dave and Scott’s worst fears came true with David Johnson likely out for 2–3 months, meaning he’ll miss most of the season and leaving this team without their most important player. I suspected we’d see one of Bell or Johnson missing time this year, but no one could predict or be happy about this outcome. I suspect they’ll be hitting the market to find a replacement, but I don’t know if they’ll find a high-end RB1 out there to replace his production — which puts their team’s upside at serious risk.

Speaking of injuries

There were a number of major injuries to fantasy relevant players this week that could change the playoff landscape drastically. In addition to David Johnson, other players who teams were counting on include Allen Robinson, Danny Woodhead, Andrew Luck, Kevin White, and more.

As Advertised

Falcone came out swinging and easily posting the top score, something we should get used to seeing until David Johnson returns.

A challenger appears!

Though Dave and Scott’s team may be hampered a bit (they are still a lock for the playoffs), there is a new/old team that could be the one to give Falcone and Chris a run for their money. Despite a rare down week from Bradonk, Cleve should be feel pretty good about a deep roster that should have very good weeks in the future. In addition to still having the best WR group, Cohen was discovered as a diamond in the rough who could become a key piece on a fantasy team that was thought to be lacking firepower at RB. If Cohen is the real deal, the gap between Cleve and Falcone is a lot smaller than I previously thought.

Rough Waters Ahead

The COCKS OF THE WALK division is primed for a bloodbath this year. Not only does Falcone look dangerous, but both Head and Brett have made big moves to make their teams competitive, and in my mind all 4 of those teams should be in the playoff conversation. But with them facing each other twice this year, the likelihood of them all making it doesn’t seem great. The question is, who is the odd team out…
