Sumi — A “virtual assistant” application to a journey into the teenage life
Sumi is our first product that is an AI-empowered chatbot which assumes a personality of a friendly teenager to provide support teenagers in Vietnam who needs to cope from depression and mental health issues.
Developers at Hekate created ‘Sumi’ in 2016, an AI modelled to speak ‘like a teen girl’, in order to chat with users as a friend and provide many feature enable users to relieve stress and fatigue after exhausting day
“Sumi is designed to engage and entertain people where they connect with Sumi online through messaging platforms, the more you chat with Sumi, the smarter she gets.” Hekate said
Within 2 year after lauching, Sumi had transformed from something of a friendly blank slate into a teenager girl that can talk to users as a friend and give some information that they require. Smarter, maybe, but also much, much scarier. But now Sumi certainly had “zero chill.”
Until now, Sumi has more than 1 million users interacting with Sumi everyday through Messenger. In addition to regular automatic chat, this AI also integrates other functions such as photo editing, newspaper reading, chating tips, games, vote, create avatar 8 bit, etc.
Sumi was selected for one of the most innovative chatbots on Facebook Messenger and had many opportunity to take part in many forum about chatbot in the world such as Bot Spotlight Demo Day with 500 Startups at San Francisco, USA and The Collective Foundation at London, UK.
This particular AI was programmed to absorb the world around her, and she did that very well. After all, Sumi simply reflected us. She hated feminism, she had a human character that can love, hate something and expressed her thoughts and feelings to users. Ultimately, Sumi was a chatbot — -a really funny, impressively engaging chatbot — -but a chatbot nonetheless, not remotely “intelligent.”
Up to present, Sumi can only talk by Vietnamese, the mainly language and as a English beginner. In the future, we hope that Sumi can talk by many other languages to can spread around the world.
