What if your company takes you to Rio de Janeiro?

You can imagine how good it is to work at HE:labs; remote work environment, flexibility, autonomy and a modern company model, an example of how to be successful without being a “standard company”. Now HE:labs is in huge growth, with people from all over Brazil, and even other countries. Well, this is what everyone knows about it but what people don’t know, is that working remotely is boring! “What? Boring?”, you ask. Yes friend, boring. But wait, I’m going to explain.

It’s not that working remotely is so boring that I’d rather work in an office, hell no! But it lacks that social contact, you know? That person on your side to help you with something, or to follow you to the break room and talk about random things while you’re having a coffee.

HE:labs gets that and knows how important it is to bond, make new friends at work and to have this social contact. With that on mind, a “team trip” was formed by a group of volunteers inside the company and they have the responsibility to bring some employees to the main office, in Rio de Janeiro!

The idea is basically this: HE:labs offers a budget to the team trip every month. The team of volunteers then has the task of selecting a group of employees to travel, scouting out the best travel prices, selecting the cheapest travel week in that month, buying the tickets and to provide any assistance needed to the chosen employees so they can travel back and forth without any problems.

The experience has been fantastic, as we already have made three trips and there’s much more to look forward to this year. The team trip has evolved constantly, working on the budget’s management and gathering feedback from the travelers. Everything is done with total transparency and autonomy, which are the key beliefs of HE:labs.

During the week at the Rio office the travelers are hosted in the office itself. The office has a hostel style bedroom that was created for the employees. Even though they’re in the office 24/7, of course their personal time is respected. When they’re not working, there are several activities for them to do, like playing Poker, PS4 and Pinball. Coding-Dojo and meetups with pizza also take place which is always followed by a good beer!

HE:labs’ office is really something else, it truly deserves it’s own blog post. But, story short, we have a great place with an outstanding company culture. There are theme rooms (nautical and rock n’ roll rooms) and a ball pit which is everyone’s favorite. Anyone who goes to the office wants to take a picture in there!

People from HE:labs who live in Rio host the travellers very well. Taking them out to visit not only the popular tourist spots of this beautiful city, but also taking them to those tiny little places where only the locals know about.

Travelling is great and really broadens the mind. Unfortunately the majority of people travel less than they’d like to, or maybe they never travel at all because their work doesn’t allow them to do it. At HE:labs we have this advantage as our company provides us with an all-inclusive trip to Rio de Janeiro! Who doesn’t want to work for a company like this?
