Milan April 8th, 2019 — More than 27.000 rides where taken within the 30 days of March totaling 62,372 Km, mileage equivalent to a time and a half around the globe.

From last November, month in which Helbiz first deployed its fleet, there have been approximately 100 thousand rides completed through the usage of the Helbiz App, which allows for the rental and ‘free-floating’ parking of electric scooters throughout the city. With an average ride of 2,24 KM per ride, Helbiz users helped cutting emissions of more than 125 tons of carbon dioxide (every single kilometer completed with an e-scooter prevents the release of 560 gr of CO2 when compared to car consumption).

“We feel it is our responsibility to share data from our testing phase with the public. We believe it is fundamental for Milan institutions, as well as cities across Italy, to truly understand the potential of this new mobility system. The empowerment for citizens and its incredible environmental impact, makes the integration of sharing platforms into cities’ daily mobility practices an indisputable asset” explains Salvatore Palella, CEO of Helbiz.

“There have been a lot of discussions in regard to ‘ideal seasons’ for the system implementation; from our experience, we believe that Milano has no optimal seasons and our successful testing has become the concrete proof that the seasonal commonplace does not apply. Innovation is a daily development and is able to move forward from its inception at a pace that, at times, leaves bureaucracy behind. It is with conviction that we decided to move forward with the first e-scooters mobility sharing system in Milan to showcase not only the validity of the project but the need for this specific innovation within Italian cities. The numbers clearly demonstrate that the e-scooter phenomenon is one that demands attention proving the ability to fulfill a need that has been left overlooked for too long. Despite the fact that Helbiz sharing mobility system is still under testing phase — states Palella — we are able to depend on a numerous and robust community of users that have not held back but instead doubled each month, proving that the need is concrete. Users were very receptive to the service and quick to welcome its advantages: the ability to move about the city in a faster, more efficient way with an eye to the environment”.

To celebrate Helbiz’s first 100 thousand rides, and to tribute the acclaimed Milano Design Week, the company has decided to expand its fleet, as well as its Geofence, broadening its service. Starting today, Helbiz e-scooters will be increased to 500 for the city of Milan. This new fleet will be able to move about, not solely within the city center, but will now include Corso Sempione, Città Studi and Isola. Additionally, encompassed within the new perimeters of the revised Geofence, the scooters will be able to travel in Via Savona in order to reach some of the most crucial sections dedicated to the beloved and international design week, to avail both citizens and visitor to truly participate and experience all that this international event has to offer within the city of Milan.
