Protocol Weekly — Issue #7

Protocol Weekly is a newsletter to exclusively showcase the progress of Ethereum layer-2 protocols.
Massive congratulations to Connext Network for the release of Payment Hubs on the main-net! This is a massive achievement.
Another week, another FUD. The narrative has now changed from why does X need a token on Ethereum, to why does Ethereum need a token. Crypto Twitter is now a zero-sum game of which coin will ‘win’ rather than acknowledging each tokens’ use case and benefits. Oh well, seasons come and go.
On a lighter note, congratulations to 0x, Dharma, Set, Abacus & WalletConnect on the launch of DeFi. Keen to see the continued innovation for decentralised finance.

From Titus Capilnean (Director of Marketing):
- Our first Partner Success Story is live! Check out the experience Waxex had with implementing Civic. Hint: it was easy and efficient.
- We couldn’t be more excited about our newest partners: Kuende, SOMA, Menlo One, Smartlands, and CarSmartt have all joined the Civic ecosystem over the past few weeks.
- Check out our first webinar, hosted in conjunction with TokenMarket, on Decentralized KYC for ICOs and Token Sales. It includes a cool product demo too.

- In conjunction with the announcement of our new conversational OTC network (currently in private beta), we also announced that the OTC network will have KYC and AML verification capabilities courtesy of our partner Wyre, a registered money services business (MSB). Last week, Wyre published a blog post outlining specifics on how their KYC/AML process will work with third-party networks like AirSwap.
- To continue to echo our last couple of updates, our team has been onboarding traders onto our new conversational OTC network. For traders interested in participating in the private beta, please register for the waitlist here.

- As according to our timetable new exercises have been added to Achievement.Network, this week they cover Call Context and Storage vs Memory.
- Next week we look forward to mentoring at and sponsoring ETHBerlin. We will also be speaking and presenting NOCUST at the Ethereum Industry Summit Hong Kong. The team looks forward to meeting everyone at both!

From Brendan Dharma (Head of Growth Operations):
- We hired Sid Ramesh as Protocol Specialist. Sid will provide technical integration support to projects building on Dharma, as well as continue his research into unsecured lending models and reputation schemes.
- We pushed the ERC721 collateralizer to Kovan and wrote guides for this new functionality in four steps (Minting a new ERC721, Creating a Debt Order, Filling a Debt Order, and Making Repayments & Returning Collateral). If you are interested in building an app that lets people get a loan backed by NFTs, reach out to brendan@dharma.io.
- We quadrupled the content in our FAQ to answer commonly asked questions (technical and non-technical) about Dharma Protocol.
- Since we created the Dharma Improvement Proposal program, we’ve seen DIPs for creditor-driven loans, margin calling, partial fills, and fungible bonds / crowdfunding. Thanks to all of the community members who have commented, and in particular to @bohendo and @shigxx for their great PR on creditor-driven loans.
