The Helium Foundation recently attended LoRaWAN Live in Orlando hosted by the LoRa Alliance. We were overwhelmed at the response from everyone who participated in the Helium panel, “Scaling Businesses on Community Networks,” attended the Helium Happy Hour, and took the time to connect with Foundation team members. The event was a great opportunity to connect with Helium partners worldwide, along with industry leaders and innovators pioneering the future of LoRaWAN connectivity.

Since 2019, Helium has been expanding how companies and individuals access wireless connectivity. Today, Helium is the world’s largest public wireless network, providing a unique, community-built LoRaWAN network in 192+ countries.

The Helium Network continues to grow into a robust ecosystem supporting the growth of the LoRa Industry:

- 4 major IoT Roaming Partnerships.

- 81 IoT Companies using the Helium Network to support their product lines and commercial deployments.

The Helium Foundation is an active member of the LoRa Alliance and is proud to support the LoRaWAN industry as network deployers, funders of open-source development, and thought leaders in the future of the Internet of Things (IoT). The overall positive sentiment from the LoRa Alliance during this year’s LoRaWAN Live is a testament to the power of community-built networks as a key driver of IoT adoption. As LoRaWAN continues to expand across industries, it’s unlocking an infinite number of new applications from smart cities to agriculture, asset tracking, and more. Emerging technologies like AI, edge computing, and blockchain are already being integrated with IoT solutions driving further innovation.

LoRaWAN Live is a testament to the growth of the LoRaWAN industry and to the gravity of a community-built LoRaWAN network for the potential of IoT growth.

Highlights

Helium’s ecosystem partners presented several new products and services that will increase accessibility and ease of use on the Helium Network:

  • Seeed Studio’s new product line and QR onboarding experience enable efficient and easy device set-up for individuals and businesses.
  • Plug-and-play Helium-compatible home kits by Merry IoT allow for quick and easy set-up for consumers.
  • Actility showcased a live tracking demo with seamless roaming outdoors on Helium.

Roaming was also a major topic of discussion, with the announcement of the technical integration and commercial offering of Helium connectivity via ThingParkExchange. The offering will be the first LoRaWAN peering hub providing technical and business enablers for public operators and enterprise networks.

Actility showcased a Helium roaming demo by exhibiting hall-tracking devices connected to Cisco Gateways. Outside the exhibit hall, the trackers automatically roamed onto the Helium Network, where four to five existing Helium community hotspots provided coverage. It was a great example of how the Helium Network can enable seamless roaming for devices when moving between indoor and outdoor environments and functioning as a backup network.

Overall, LoRaWAN Live Orlando was a fantastic event for the Helium Foundation and the wider industry. The Helium Foundation looks forward to continuing to work with its partners to grow the Helium Network and enable more accessible and efficient connectivity solutions for businesses and individuals worldwide. As the world becomes more connected, applications require seamless worldwide connectivity, and Helium is leading the charge in providing a solution for a smarter and better-connected world.
