What had been an occasional puff with an iced coffee, became an obsession that would control every aspect of my life. I know many people can relate to the addiction to nicotine, the people, places, and things that seem to fuel the pattern of unhealthy behavior. I had reached a breaking point where I did not have a choice, like a car running out of gas, I had to refuel without hesitation. Walking upstairs became a marathon, or so it felt like one.

The Tough Times

Now, two months without a single puff, it has become a little easier to go about my daily routine, but this is far from the case for others who have not been as fortunate. In fact, 15 out of every 100 adults in the U.S smokes, and according to the CDC those who attempt to kick the habit, typically go through 8–11 attempts before they are successful.

We all know the health risks; the heart disease, effects on breathing, and the disgusting yellow teeth. But due to the addictiveness to nicotine that is similar to hard drugs (U.S. Surgeon General), quitting puts the risk of withdrawal, stress, and appetite on the forefront.

What’s in place now?

I had been thinking about the current tools in place to prevent people from smoking; vaporizers, patches, gums…the list goes on. Not to mention the lists of applications to aid you on your journey. Apps like Cravings to quit are a dime a dozen, they track your days without a cigarette, send push notifications, but lack in delivering a reward system. Like signing up for a gym membership, many people sign up for these apps while they are feeling great, but slowly taper off because these systems lack structure.

A breath of fresh air: You are not alone

Here at Helix3, we strongly believe that you should be rewarded for healthy behaviors. In the case of cutting a difficult habit like cigarettes, this is crucial. Helix3 provides a fun system to track milestones, boost motivation, and reward you with Helix3 Tokens! (All coming soon). Depending on your preference, you will be able to challenge a loved one or friend, or hold yourself accountable on the Helix3 platform.

Just think, after a….

Week- senses of smell and taste will have started to improve dramatically.

Month- Circulation will improve.

5 Months- your lung function should have increased by around 10 per cent.

5 Years- the possibility of a heart attack is roughly half that of someone who is still smoking.

You got this! Stay up to date with Helix3 and learn more about our challenges, or create your own!
