When you listen to Afro-synthesis you get a feel, like you’ve been on a journey. A journey that has let you to the sea, the woodlands, the mountains, the grasslands, the desert and finally to the city. A journey of a young man who has infinite dreams. He has an appreciation of life, colour, women beauty and wildlife. A journey collectively about 48 minutes long that sets the stage for pure jazz funk, smooth jazz and a little neo-soul.

The king curator band that has a way with any crowd, Shamsi music has brought back the age of narration, one that I believe was inspired by their forerunners; Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and with a tinge of inspiration by the Late Manu Dibango and Francophone jazz Legends.

Aunty

From the funky afro-beat hype of ‘Afrohits ‘and the smooth vibe that comes from the single ‘Unveiling’ your off to the best part, seemingly somewhat inspired afro-funk and great western drum beating that puts you in the mood for some rock and roll.

The wilderness and the beautiful grasslands of East Africa is vested into by the headliner tracks on the album that have a keen appreciation to the awesome story telling that goes into the track ‘OKAKA ‘ of a great and mighty warrior king .Closely set is the wildlife a celebration of the African Elephant whose glamour is celebrated on the ‘Elephant Parade’. Befitting a celebration and sensitization of ‘Sudan’ the deceased last male Northern White Rhino.

What is a great band if it isn’t with great collaborations? ‘Mandira ‘a product of Shamsi and Siti &The Band taking you to Zanzibar and its Oud Afro-Arabic culture set and ‘Cry for Kenya ‘a prayer for the prosperity of their mother land. It’s all systems go for the band after their Novel album. The fans favourite is definitely a must listen ‘Murata’ a must listens give your company and warmth just as its meaning; Friend. Spice and fiesta goes to the funky tracks; ‘Supa Juma, Brikicho ,Wings of Love and the bonus track ‘Nthenya’.

The future is promising for these young men and so are their careers! I’d eloquently compare them o the soulful African trio of Lokua Kanza, Gerald Toto and Richard Bona. I’ll be sure to follow them in future to Lugano at the infamous Estival festival!

Band leader/Vocals ; Laka Waithaka
