The city of Nairobi has many shades and so does the curator band under its astoundingly famous name. The shades of Nairobi are featured all in the music of the Horns Project and they do love their uptown funk. From the Upper west side to the rich art and music culture of the Lower east side, they will have you hooked!

Their album so to say is a composition I believe heavily inspired by the likes of Ben E King and the works of the Euro-Indian Jazz rendition of Aaron Gosh. Their most elusive track on the Album ‘Rhumba Nostalgia’ has fans remising of the loved rhumba and Lingala from their French speaking neighbours in the DRC.

‘Muthurwa Express’ is a beautiful story of the city life hustle and commute full of ups and downs. It’s a literally masterpiece that even the percussionist takes a turn to show off the giggles and wonderful drums set to stage.

To your Sunday taste of smooth jazz ‘Furaha’ and ‘smooth&sleek ’ are set to have you enjoying the beautiful Sunday ambience. To their fifth track you’re in for a great remembrance of the works of the late Wallace Ronnie and the smooth jyve Marcus Miller having the fugel Horn and the Bass Guitar meticulously fashioned.

The end of the album will dawn on you soon enough when you find yourself standing and dancing to the rhythm.’Muguna Muguna’ named after a member of the band is a peri-urban sway of the talents of the Bass guitar in making smooth Jazz. It will have you nodding at the beat. Moreover, the bonus track is a dramatic and fun way to end the show live,’Mukoye’ incorporating rich Kenyan cultures from start to end!

They are arguably one of the most respected bands in Kenya and their influencing is fast rising. They may as well be the African version but funky ‘George Duke Trio’.

If your ever in Nairobi follow them in the weekend for great ambience and a sense of the rich city culture.
