10 Reasons Why Women Should Make the First Damn Move
My partner says he never would have approached me first.
I approached my now-partner only minutes after I saw him at the bar. Within a few hours of chatting, I knew he was someone I wanted in my life. Laurence was smart, driven, observant, and hysterical. His British accent didn’t hurt either. He later admitted that he noticed me too but had no plans of approaching me first.
“Why not?” I asked.
“I didn’t think you’d be interested,” he replied, simply.
I was both shocked and relieved that I didn’t believe in the tired notion that women aren’t supposed to make the first move. I would have missed out on the greatest person I’ve ever met.
While social standards and gender stereotypes are certainly changing, I still have friends who refuse to approach someone they’re interested in. Luckily, our origin story has swayed the mind of my most old-school friend, Jenn. She’s finally taking the initiative to ask people out, and her dating life is busier than ever.
Whether you’re single or divorced, there’s something powerful and endearing about a woman who isn’t afraid to make the first move.
