Quiet Retreat
Always on the outside; outside looking in.
Life on repeat — I’m ten years old all over again.
The odd guy out — different, always will I be.
You think I don’t fit in? I must say, I agree.
It’s okay, I tell myself, a repeat of the past.
But when is it ever okay, being the outcast?
Shake it off and take that step, forward I will press.
Look them in the eye, with a friendly “God bless.”
It’s nothing new, this cycle — I’ve lived it on repeat.
I know the move to take, you know, I’ll quietly retreat.
