“I don’t need a relationship” is a huge red flag. Ignoring this statement when we first meet someone on a date could spell disaster later on.

Why?

I don’t intend to judge, but from experience, insecure or toxic people have a habit of over-complicating a relationship or dumping most of their problems into it.

Yet, it’s possible to let go of or work on an insecure attachment style. In the meantime, here are 5 signs to look for if our partner uses this statement.

1. They always feel the need to tell you

No matter how many times you say it, you can never tell yourself a lie enough times to make it true. A repetitious mantra “I don’t need anyone” will never solve your insecurities.

For example, I once got roped into a Multilevel Marketing scheme, Amway from 2019 to 2020. By a slim margin, Amway has been permitted to continue operating by a 1975 FTC ruling, but people often still criticize it as a pyramid scheme.

They still sell real products. But, their business model focuses on recruitment, not selling.
